This is a Great Hamilton 2-STAR 961 Grade watch in near mint condition. One of Hamilton's Rarest & Best watches. It appears the grade 961 was the origin of the famed 951 production. Only 1100 of the 961 grade were made, out of which 97 were directly converted to grade 951.

This is a 21j railroad grade watch, which you seldom see in a 14k hunters case. And it is a stem wind & set. Few Hamilton 961 had a solid gold case. This heavy 14k solid gold case is like new, and the case covers open to less than 90 degrees, as they should. The hinges are robust - See pictures.

The bow is stiff, and the crystal is pristine. The movement is clean and look great. This watch is running strong.

This watch has a solid gold train. The dial has two tight hairlines that you can see in the pictures, and everything else is very near perfect. I do not know when the last service was, so you may want to have it serviced.

The total weight of this watch is 109 grams. The case diameter is approximately 53mm.

No orders for this model were ever given to the Plate Department. They were re-modeled to conform with the #950.
