This particular watch was used by many railways because the watch needs to be opened to change the time which was good because before the watches were regulated there were a growing number of train collisions because the conductors times on separate trains were not synced, which was necessary in order to prevent collisions. The old watches before the regulations were put in place could change time on accident in the pocket of the conductor and the conductors used the time to know where other trains should be, and bad time resulted in collisions.
