Back in the late 19th and early 20th century. Watchmakers like Waltham, Hamilton, Elgin, Hampden, Rockford and Illinois would show sample movements to dealers in a special "Salesman's Case" (what wristwatch people call an "exhibition caseback"). Normally hidden behind a protective rear metal cover, the watch's movement was revealed in all its glory; its elegantly decorated wheels and cogs working in perfect synchronized harmony.

More than that, American watchmakers and dealers understood the hypnotic allure of a ticking movement. They used the salesman case to win business in a highly competitive market. This beautiful Hamilton is pendant wind and set movement, running and keeping good time.

It is lever set, Stem winds, adjust to 6 positions, and yes Adjusts to Temperature. The beautiful minty Montgomery dial is signed "Hamilton Railway Special" with large Black Arabic numerals and 5-minute numerals in the backdrop. Has the Cobalt Blue Spade & Whip Steel hands. Housed in a nice #11 Display case, both covers have NOS Glass Crystals.

Has a nice crown and a moveable bow in good condition. Light nicks and scratches of the bezels and the case body.
