Hamilton 940 Special Rare Gilt Damaskeen 21 Jewel 18s Railroad Pocket Watch

  

18 size 21 jewel open face lever-set Grade 940 "Special" pocket watch. An extremely rare watch with "Special" marking to its train bridge and a gilt damaskeen finish that is essentially unique among Hamilton production, the small number of examples of this variant of the 940 Special that I have encountered were all listed in the Hamilton factory ledger as having been made for retailer Geo. Movement is absolutely beautiful with its fancy damaskeen and superb gilt tone.

Watch is fronted by a very unusual Hamilton Watch Co. Special signed dial and watch is housed in a nickel glassback display case. Barrett on August 30th, 1910.

Running and a beautiful movement with superb gilt color and luster. Dial is excellent with just a small surface scratch above its seconds-register and an extremely faint outer chapter hairline at 43 minutes. Display case is very nice but has some mild tarnish spots which I have not cleaned or polished.
