18 size 21 jewel open face lever-set Grade 940 pocket watch. Movement is private label signed J. 599, Ottumwa, Iowa" and double-sunk enamel dial is private label signed "J.

Movement has the very interesting feature of diamond endstones on its balance, lever, and escape wheel. A very interesting private label, J. Neasham was an official watch inspector for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railway as well as for the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway and Neasham operated a jewelry business located at 120 E. I don't know the significance of the Special No.

599 marking but would bet there is an interesting story behind it and maybe with further research it could be uncovered. Watch is housed in a Dueber "Railway" model nickel case. Movement serial number is 104805. Running after needing a very sluggish start that took several twists to begin, and I think very likely movement hasn't seen a servicing in quite some time. Crown has some up/down play and needs some downward pressure when winding to keep the stem engaged.

Beautiful movement with excellent color and luster. Dial is superb with only some very mild fine glaze scratches. Case is excellent showing little wear and with a strong in hand look and feel. Rear lid of case has a scratch to its inner surface near the Dueber Railway markings as pictured. Please check out my other items this week for more great watches and watch related items for sale.
