Excellent Hamilton Limited Edition (HB series) in10K Gold filled case, 17 Jewel ETA Unitas 6497 with adjustable balance, shock absorber and ornate plating on the movement. Hamilton offered this wristwatch as the second of their attempts to issue a historical pocket watch. The Collector's Classic Edition Society had exclusive rights to market and called it Lord Hamilton.
Collector's Classic Edition Society limited the release to 100 units and specified a gold-filled case made by Star Watch Co. ETA made the ebauche (plain plate) movement while Hamilton engraved the plates and bridges giving it the look of a late 1900's model. Hamilton used an ETA Unitas 6497 with their logo and model number on the baseplate under the balance. They followed a traditional Swiss watchmaker's practice with the exception of the balance wheel which allows adjustments. Unitas, now ETA-Unitas, produced pocket watch movements going back to 1920's as part of the Swiss group, Ebauches SA, now ETA.
The originator of the advanced movement, Auguste Reymond, joined the Swiss conglomerate, ASUAG, now the Swatch Group Ltd. In the 1970's, the Swiss reacted quickly to the western fad toward retro clothing and jewelry, unlike American companies that failed in the previous decade. The HB series came late the retro cycle when pocket watches became popular along with three-piece suits. When you shop around, you will find few quality pocket watch manufacturers producing product today. If you want a modern movement and case, look for pre-owned products like this Hamilton from the 1970's - a modern mechanical watch. Older company pocket watch movements need the attention of watchmakers. That can cost you more than the watch itself.
