Made by Hamilton, 18 size 17 jewel open face lever-set Official RR Standard pocket watch with rare dial and movement marking for Ball sales agent Wm. Kendrick's Sons of Louisville, Kentucky. A rare and interesting early Ball-Hamilton watch, Ball had a wide network of sales agents in the 1890s and for a short time a small quantity of Ball-Hamilton watches were made with markings to these individual agents but total production was low and good examples are very hard to find. Movement is nicely finished with gold jewel settings, gold balance screws, and Ball's distinctive circular pattern nickel damaskeen.
Watch is housed in a gold-filled Star Watch Case Co. Case of somewhat later vintage. Movement serial number is 28809. Running and a nice looking movement with good color and luster and some typical mild surface marks. Dial faces up beautifully though has a few faint hairlines and has a very small surface flake near the 18 minute position.
Case has a decent in-hand look showing moderate normal wear. Please check out my other items this week for more great watches and watch related items for sale.
- Check out the NAWCC! The NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors) is a group that has a 65 year history, a terrific online message board for collectors, and the NAWCC puts on many watch and clock shows across the United States every year. I've been an NAWCC member since 1991 and recommend it to every collector of watches or clocks.
