Very nice 16s Hamilton Watch Co. 21j grade 992B lever-setting railroad pocket watch in two tone screw back and bezel yellow gold filled case (the case center being gold filled) and'base metal marked back and bezel actually made of stainless steel. Serial number C176289 dates watch to 1947.
This rather peculiar case design illustrates the problems Hamilton had on getting back into civilian production in the immediate post WWII years. The Wadsworth company had these case frames ready nut no backs and bezels, so they made these stainless steel ones from old Bunn Special first model case dies to fit onto the case frames. Not a successful design as they were discontinued after 1947. Although this case was advertised as a model "3" (it does resemble model 2) it would have really been model 13 if Hamilton stuck with their case model sequence. Maybe they thought "13" wouldn't sell due to bad lick superstition. All that said, this is a very nice watch with very little wear and a good glass crystal and clean single sunk enamel dial. Watch runs and keeps time to within a minute or two a day. The item "16s Hamilton 21J 992B railroad pocket watch in model 3 two-tone Wadsworth case" is in sale since Sunday, July 25, 2021.
