Hamilton 2974b Rare Early Serial #k021 Us Navy Military 16s 17j Pocket Watch

  
16 size 17 jewel open face hack-set Grade 2974B military pocket watch with extremely low serial number K021. In addition to the extremely early serial number this movement is also marked "Elinvar" which is seldom seen among Grade 2974B production, as these watches were all equipped with Elinvar balances and hairsprings but were seldom marked.

Watch is fronted by its correct double-sunk enamel dial and baton style hands. Watch is housed in its correct chrome-plated base metal case with Bureau of Ships U. Ships" below its "Elinvar marking.

Movement serial number is K021. Started running when fully wound but balance motion is sluggish and I think likely this watch has not seen a servicing in a number of years. Hacking function is operating properly. Excellent movement cosmetically with just some typical scattered very small marks to the plates and some small specks of oxide to the steelwork. Dial faces up very well with just a faint hairline to the lower left portion of its seconds-register and a small flaw bordering the seconds-register near the 5 O'clock numeral.

Case is attractive with a good in hand look and with its rear markings and circular finish still strong, but the band and the bow of the case appear to have been polished as they have lost nearly all of their chrome-plating and are showing the underlying base metal throughout.
